Delta African Democratic Congress has handed its 2027 governorship ticket to Dr Emmanuel Unuafe, a United Kingdom academic. The Asaba primary on Friday returned him unopposed, a calculated snub to Delta’s political godfathers and their money politics.
Unuafe, a senior lecturer at Arden University, has lived outside Nigeria for over ten years. His nomination forces PDP and APC to rethink their own candidate selection, knowing an outsider now sets the pace.
Legal hurdles loom. INEC must clear his residency status. Party compliance is another hurdle. PDP and APC insiders call the nomination a sideshow, betting it will collapse once their own candidates hit the streets with cash.
ADC’s move resets Delta’s political game. Whether Unuafe can turn academic prestige into votes is 2027’s first real stress test.
